New Grown Up Camps!

About Our Camps

If you’re looking for a great kids camp this summer, look no further. We offer week-long day camps loaded with exciting outdoor adventure, mountain biking and lots of hands-on learning for ages 5-16 years. The environmental camps promote physical fitness, personal responsibility and teamwork. The camps also emphasize care for the equipment we use, and the land on which we live.

Each camp program will focus on mountain biking techniques and explorations of our natural environment. Kids will learn a variety of mountain bike skills, bicycle repair as well as trail safety. Daily rides take us to spots where kids delve into some of Vermont’s really special places; areas not often visited that help keep Vermont in its ecological balance. Other camp activities include swimming, adventure games, orienteering, canoeing and kayaking, pond and stream explorations, biathlon (using 100% safe laser guns), Frisbee golf and much more.

2012 Summer Camp Descriptions of Each Session

Camp # 1, June 25-29

Out of Bounds, Age 12-16 (overnight option)

The Out of Bounds multi sport camp will include mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing and mountain scrambling. Much of the week will be spent in the Green Mtn. National Forest. Days will be filled with an exciting mix of sports, swimming and adventure games.

This week is recommended for kids interested in developing a
variety of outdoor skills, such as orienteering, creating their own emergency shelter and learning “leave no trace” camping, as well as challenging their own endurance and stamina. The true highlight of this camp week will be spending time in the wilderness with an option of two overnights.

For overnights, please have campers bring a sleeping bag & pillow, vanity items and clothing. All other necessities will be provided. Overnights will take place on Grafton Ponds' property.

Camp # 2, July 2-6

Nature's Wetlands, Ages 7-12

Nature’s Wetlands camp is designed to explore Grafton’s wild wetlands. A great mix of hiking, mountain biking and interactive games will be interspersed with traveling to and exploring working beaver ponds, meandering rivers and old soap stone quarries. We will muck around in many local ponds and streams doing hands-on
investigations of how, where and why animals live in these special environments.

From the tiniest mayfly to slimy leeches to energetic beavers, we will use fun activities and investigations to learn more about these very special waterways that act as home for the many creatures we will study.

Camp # 3, July 9-13

Young Adventurers, Ages 5-8

A camp especially for our younger friends. This camp has the same wonderful mix of mountain biking and environmental adventures as our other camps, but is designed especially for the newer mountain biker. Whether campers have just learned to ride a mountain bike or have been mountain biking for a while, this camp is fun for all abilities. Our staff will work with small groups to ensure that everyone has a successful camp week.

We will also explore Vermont's environment and learn about wild animal adaptations. Activities such as learning about camouflage techniques and trying them out ourselves and finding out first hand about the tricks animals use to survive are interactive and fun.

Camp # 4, July 16-20

Celebrating Vermont Wildlife, Ages 7-12 yrs

We share Vermont’s environment with a wide range of spectacular animals. Join us for a week of Celebrating Vermont's wildlife by investigating the exciting diversity of both large and small animals that live amongst us. Through interactive games, hands-on activities and exciting museum artifacts, we will look at Vermont animal adaptations, habitats, survival strategies, ecology and population level.

With a wonderful mix of actual hands-on field explorations, adventurous mountain biking for all levels, cooperative games and swimming, campers will have a very exciting camp week.

Camp # 6, July 30 - August 3

Woodland Survival, Ages 12-16 yrs (overnight option!)

Ever thought about what you would do if you ever lost your way when out for a hike?  How would you find your way out?  If you had to spend the night, what would you do for shelter, warmth, water?  This will be the week for campers to discover how they can get through these situations rather comfortably, or to avoid it completely. Campers will learn how to start a fire with no matches, build a shelter with only the material that Mother Nature provides.  We will also teach map reading and orienteering skills through interactive games and many other outdoor activities.

All this combined with plenty of mountain biking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking.  Option for two overnights!

For overnights, please have campers bring a sleeping bag & pillow, vanity items and clothing. All other necessities will be provided. Overnights will take place on Grafton Ponds' property.
